So, I'm reading the science press releases, and come across this one, where researchers are looking into how the different parts of the brain process visual information, by using a magnetic-imaging system to induce temporary blindness in test subjects. They are all excited about realizing that just because the brain evolved a specialized concious-vision center they can disable, the subconcious processes for movement tracking still work.
I'm of course disturbed by the notion that if these good scientists are using this technology to do brain research, god only knows what horrors the DOE has come up with in terms of using large magnetic fields to blind the enemy on the battle field.
Or maybe they're happy with the permanent damaging effects of laser blinding mechanisms.
Pure speculation, of course, the article mentions no defense interest in the blinding aspects.
