I love Nancy Kress. She writes amazingly good hard-sci-fi stories about not just new technologies, but also their affect on mankind. In the book I finished tonight, Maximum Light, she's exploring the idea of what happens to society, as conservative forces force genetic research underground, while the long term effects of toxic chemicals destroy mankinds ability, not just to live, but to reproduce.
But that's not all. The book is also about growing up, accepting that life is not all sweetness and light, and even though that's the case, we still have a life to lead, and even if the world is doomed, it's ok to have have goals...and to have a good time.
